About Govt. College Suratgarh

The college is located on NH-15 at the outskirts of the town, Suratgarh which is known for its Military Station, Super Thermal Power Station and Central Farm on the map India. The college campus is spread across an area of 22.7 acres.

Affiliated to MGS University ,Bikaner, the college is included in the list of colleges supported by UGC and is regularly receiving UGC developmental grants and other assistance as per requirement of its proposals submitted to UGC.

It is a co-education institution with over 1600 students on its rolls. Supported by experienced and devoted teaching and non-teaching staff, the college is committed to provide the congenial learning environment to its students.

History Of Govt. College Surat Garh

In 1977, Govt. of Rajasthan decided to establish Government College in Suratgarh with the noble aim to facilitate the easy access to the higher education for the youth of the region which is a harmonious blend of rural and urban cultures.

Under the political leadership of Sh. Gurusharan Chabra, local MLA and sincere devotion of local public, Government College Suratgarh started its journey in 1977-1978 from the two rooms in the premises of Seth Ram Dayal Rathi Govt. Secondary School, Surtatgarh. Late Pt. Kedarnath Sharma, Home Minister in State Govt. laid the foundation stone for the present building on 17 Dec. 1977. The second academic session was conducted in a local inn, popularly known as Sarda Dharmshala and in the subsequent session, college was shifted to its present building. Academically, the college began with five subjects in Arts Stream viz. Hindi, English, History , Political Science and Economics . In 1984, Commerce stream was introduced. Science stream was introduced under Self Finance Scheme in 2007-2008, in the academic session 2009-2010, Science Faculty was undertaken under Government assistance. Keeping pace with the needs of the Cyber age, the college introduced BCA course under Self Finance Scheme in 2007-2008 .In the same year, the college introduced two subjects - Geography and Life Science in Arts Stream to meet the demand of the students.

Right from the inception of the idea of a government college for the region, the local public played a vital role in the infrastructural development of the college.
